Nathan Crawford Ahnna Gibson Melanee Harwell-Taylor Brian Odom
The District Trainers have varied levels of experience in providing training to SDOC employees. Each trainer has completed the Instructor Certification course provided by Crisis Prevention Institute. Ahnna Gibson and Melanee Harwell-Taylor are senior level trainers with advanced course training in Autism Spectrum Disorders. Nathan Crawford and Brian Odom are associate level trainers and also serve as administrators at the middle school level.
Description
Participants will learn how to identify behaviors that could lead to a crisis, how to most effectively respond to each behavior to prevent the situation from escalating, how to use verbal and nonverbal techniques to defuse hostile behavior and resolve a crisis before it can become violent, how to cope with your own fear and anxiety, how to assess risk levels and consider the issues that impact decision making, and how to use CPI's disengagement skills to avoid injury if behavior becomes physical.
