Description

This course is designed to help elementary level teachers differentiate between a student with a disability and a slow learner as well as inform instructional decision-making for the slow-learner. The 13 categories of disability under the Individuals with Disability Education Act (IDEA) are discussed to support differentiation. Educational challenges for slow learners are discussed. Teachers are provided opportunities to develop classroom recommendations and strategies to support the slow learner.


Course Outline

Participants will...
  • List each of the 13 categories of disability under IDEA
  • Identify characteristics of students with disabilities
  • Examine the processes and requirements for identification of a disability under IDEA
  • Compare and contrast Specific Learning Disability versus a slow-learner
  • Create recommendations and strategies to support the slow learner

Course Activities

Participants will be able to determine what next steps are for helping students once data is analyzed.
