Description
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act mandates that certain procedures be followed when discipling students with disabilities. This course will cover the processes for conducting manifestation determination reviews (MDRs) for students with disabilities and 504 plans as well as what to do if there is disagreement during the MDR meeting. Definitions for key disciplinary terms will also be reviewed.
Course Outline
Participants will...
1. Know what an MDR is, when it is required, and how it is conducted2. Understand what constitutes a change in placement
3. Identify a variety of interim alternative education settings (IAES)
4. Differentiate ISS and OSS
5. Understand bus discipline procedures for students with disabilities
6. Know when functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs) are required according to IDEA
