Description
While self-determination has been firmly identified as a predictor of positive post-school outcomes for youth with disabilities, tangible means for assessing skills/awareness development and fostering school climates that promote self-determination may still seem elusive for professionals. This course will cover the evidence base behind self-determination as a critical set of skills for youth of all ages, meaningful assessments for self-determination, writing IEP goals related to self-determination, and creating meaningful opportunities for skill development and practice.![]()
Course Outline
1. Participants will learn the importance of self-determination as an evidence-based predictor of post-school success within the context of transition programming (with relevance for teachers of students of all ages);
2. Participants will identify 3, open source self-determination assessments and create sample self-determination IEP goals;
3. Participants will learn about fostering school climates that support meaningful learning and practice of self-determination skills.
