Full course description

"Providing effective instruction to students diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder can be challenging. If language processing, learning preferences, executive function needs, and developed relationships are not considered, students may struggle to acquire and retain academic information. Teachers and staff may misinterpret students' behaviors during instructional learning sessions as problem behavior. When effective instructional techniques, accommodations, and modifications are made, students become more attentive, academically productive, and socially appropriate. In this session, participants will be able to name specific language processing, instructional, and executive function differences in individuals diagnosed with autism that impact students in academic and social learning situations. The importance of developed relationships in the learning process for individuals with autism will also be discussed. Throughout the session, participants will identify techniques to provide support for differences in language processing, learning preferences, executive function skills, and developed relationships for individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders."
