Additional Info: It is highly recommended that students be on or above grade level in reading and math. Automotive Technology requires extensive reading. Reading Comprehension is a critical skill in the automotive repair field.
Course Description
In Automotive Technology 1, students will study the NATEF Maintenance and Light Repair (MLR) areas of Electrical/Electronic Systems, Brakes, Steering, Suspension, as well as shop and personal safety, tools and equipment usage. Students will learn the operation of the automotive systems and will perform diagnostics/repairs of the systems in a hands-on lab. Additionally, Automotive Technology 1 is designed to build a foundation of automotive repair shop operations. Students will learn the process from the writing of repair orders, to the actual repair of the vehicle and ending with the returning of the vehicle to the customer in a professional manner that will ensure customer satisfaction. Soft-skills that are required to make students employable are stressed throughout the course.
