Course Description

Students will continue to develop skills through a sustained and structured study of classical and contemporary literature. Students will also synthesize, analyze, and critique reading selections to build an extended and specialized vocabulary. Learners will become competent at interpreting, comparing and contrasting, analyzing and applying information. Writings will include essays and creative pieces that emphasize writing skills. In addition, they will demonstrate a command of Standard American English. Likewise, students will adjust their language to communicate effectively in formal and informal presentations. Research skills will be sharpened and information will be presented in a multi-genre format. Students will also complete individual reading assignments with major assessments that correspond to the selection as made by the student or the teacher.
