Course Description


Building on the skills and techniques learned in Presentation Skills One, students will be expected to research topics currently found on the National Speech and Debate Association as well as local topics of interest to prepare for in-class debates. Each speech / debate features a different form of public speaking and requires a unique skill set and talent.

Students will also incorporate technology and Intentional Design for the re-creation of teachers PowerPoints that are currently used for instruction. The “New and Improved” PowerPoints will be returned to teachers for use in their classrooms. This course will promote student use of technology for research and presentation of information.

 Examples of Speech / Debate:

  •  Dramatic Interpretation
  •  Extemporaneous Debate
  •  Impromptu
  •  Lincoln-Douglas Debate
  •  Storytelling
  •  Poetry

 Examples of topics for research:

  • Countries ought to prohibit the production of nuclear power.
  • Immigration ought to be recognized as a human right.
  • In the United States, private ownership of handguns ought to be banned.
  • The privatization of civil services undermines democracy.
  • The United States ought to promote democracy in the Middle East.
