Course Description
Geometry Honors includes the study of properties, relationships and applications of geometric figures in two and three dimensions. Topics emphasized are logical reasoning, proofs, parallel lines, perimeter, area, surface area, volume, similarity, congruent figures, translation combinations, trigonometry, tangent lines and geometric probabilities. Techniques used to solve geometry problems and to write property related proofs include discovery, exploration, formulating and defending conjectures using inductive and deductive reasoning. Students use a variety of approaches including coordinate, transformational, and axiomatic systems to discover the connections between geometry and other real world disciplines, such as art and architecture. Students use graphing calculators.
