Course Description
This course is for students interested in learning about and creating all forms of visual art. Students learn basic concepts and expand their idea of what art is while learning how to appreciate many forms. Art One is an introduction to a materials and techniques with a focus on the elements and principles of design and art history through the study of a variety of areas of creative artist expression such as drawing, painting, collages, and sculptures and do weekly sketchbook assignments. The Art One course also addresses the National, State, and SDOC Curriculum Standards for the Visual Arts through Creative Expression, Aesthetic Perception, Aesthetic Valuing, and Visual Arts Heritage.This course is the prerequisite for all other art courses.
