Instructor: Julie Taylor, Jan Richardson Consultant, A+ Literacy

This two-day session will help upper elementary teachers (Grades 3-5) learn how to use guided reading effectively as a part of their balanced literacy instruction. This consultant has extensive experience working with Jan Richardson on guided reading, and these sessions will be based on Jan Richardson's book (Next Steps in Guided Reading), which participants will also receive. On Day One, they will experience an overview of guided reading and learn critical instructional elements to help their students become readers. During the afternoon of Day One, the presenter will demonstrate strategies for working with struggling readers in grades 3 - 5. On Day Two, teachers will participate in a hands-on workshop to learn in-depth about guided reading instruction for upper elementary students.
