This session will focus on instructional practices that enhance reading comprehension for struggling readers in a virtual space. Content will highlight explicit vocabulary instruction with an emphasis on morpheme meanings and the use of interactive semantic maps. Additionally, the presentation will include reading comprehension strategy instruction (e.g., Get the Gist/main idea generation) paired with the stages of Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD). These evidence-based techniques promote goal setting and self-monitoring opportunities for students. Last, tips for engaging learners in these virtual reading activities will be shared throughout the session.
