Full course description
We all know that small group instruction is the best way to meet each of our students' needs, but what does that look like in the upper grades? We will be diving into Jennifer Serravallo’s The Reading Strategies Book to gain a better understanding of how to determine the next steps for each of the reading groups in your classroom and develop a better understanding of how to use the 300 strategies in this book. Whether you choose to use guided reading books, novel studies, independent reading books, or other texts, this session will help give you ideas and strategies to use with your students. We will also spend some time in one of her newest books, Teaching Writing in Small Groups. This book has information and ideas for strategy lessons, guided writing, shared writing, interactive writing, inquiry groups, reflection groups, coaching writing partnerships, and clubs. This session will answer the question "Now What??" for your reading and writing small groups. Participants will each receive a copy of the professional text Teaching Writing in Small Groups by Jennifer Serravallo. You will need to have that book and your copy of The Reading Strategies Book, which you should have received this school year, available for this session. If you did not receive a copy this year, please contact Lauren Harrison.
