Description

This course focuses on the most effective and efficient instructional practices for teaching reading and writing to students at the early childhood and elementary levels. Participants will research and examine the most recent and relevant critical issues in reading and writing instruction. Based on the study of that research, teachers will have an opportunity to examine, develop, share, and learn effective instructional methods to meet their students' diverse needs. This course will provide teachers with the knowledge to make complex instructional decisions that connect theory, practices, and student achievement. Participants will learn a variety of effective instructional strategies and analyze the importance of reading, writing, speaking, and listening to all student learning. They will also demonstrate an understanding of and ability to develop a comprehensive, integrated, balanced literacy-based classroom.
