Full course description
During Interactive Writing (IW), students and teacher collaborate around a shared experience and use language to negotiate a text. This session will examine how texts created during IW highlight the reciprocity between oral language, writing, and reading AND support foundational literacy skills like print referencing, phonological and phonemic awareness, letter-sound knowledge, orthographic mapping and sight words, comprehension monitoring, and phrased and fluent reading. Join C.C. as she shares how writing authentic and meaningful texts assists with teaching reading to K-2 and stringing 3-5 students. Participants will each receive a copy of the text Interactive Writing: Developing Readers Through Writing by Dr. C. C. Bates. You will need to have that book available for this session.
